Altenew All About Layering 1, Lesson 2 Homework

I definitely enjoyed making this card based on what I learned in Lesson 2 of the Altenew Academy All About Layering Level 1 class. I rarely make cards using floral stamps for the background; they're usually the focal point. So this lesson was challenging but I was happy with the outcome.

From the Scalloped Ornament Stamp Set from Altenew, I selected one of the outline stamps and chose to use blue and orange as my color palette. First, I stamped the outline stamp in Memento Tuxedo Black randomly over a Neenah 80 lb. Solar White A2 panel adding partial stamping along the edges. Then I began filling in the second layer of the motifs using one of three shades of Altenew ink, Blush, Rouge or Peach Parfait and I stamped the third inner layer in Rubbernecker Azure ink. I stamped another motif randomly over the panel and on the edges in shades of blue Rubbernecker ink in Sky, Azure or Odyssey. Then, I used the smallest stamp consisting of four dots grouped together and stamped that randomly over the panel as well which I heat embossed with Izink Embossing Powder in Iridescent. Finally, I added a "hello" word die by Spellbinders in orange with a white shadow and a short white lettered "Many Thanks" on black sentiment underneath. I cut 1/4 inch strip from the side and adhered the completed panel to a blue A2 cardstock panel.

A City View is Perfect for a Guy!

City View: Perfect for a Guy! I really liked the Project Inspiration in Lesson Two of Altenew's course, For the Guys. Trying my hand at a card featuring a cityscape seemed like a good challenge and I thought the cityscape stencil would be a good theme for "a guy card". So I purchased the less expensive option of the stencil, to try creating a card without a flower in sight, LOL!! I attached the Altenew City Scenes stencil using painter's tape to a piece of Neenah Solar White cardstock measuring 5.5 x 8.5, just above the bottom edge to create the look of a city skyline. I used the larger size of cardstock just to give myself some room to work out how the final card will frame the city scene. First, I dusted the cardstock with Pink and Main's anti-static powder tool. Then I generously and directly applied Versamark ink to the lower part of the stencil, sprinkled Nuvo embossing powder in Duchess Blue, and heated the powder until it melted, creating a very nice dar...

Stenciling without Stamping First

When I started on this card, I had a vague idea ruminating in my head, but I wasn't sure how to accomplish what I was thinking. It came to me during an Altenew AECP class entitled, Celebration Stencil Techniques, where I watched the instructor, Laurel Beard demonstrate several cool methods for using stencils in creative ways. I wanted to do likewise, so I decided to use the Altenew Magnolia Ballerina three-layer stencil without stamping the image first. I know, its not revolutionary or anything, lol, but I had seen a few cards that looked like they were colored that way because the look of the coloring was diffuse and I thought that would work well with ink blending. That was the plan...and it turned out exactly how I envisioned it. I was pleased with the results of using the stencil set in a non-traditional way. Time Out Challenge #214

The card that I decided to enter in the Time Out Challenge #214 definitely fit the criteria of being night themed. The image of The Three WiseMen is apropos because Christ was born during at night. Who knew that this little baby born during the hours of darkness would become the Light of the World? God knew. Thank you to Kailash, whom I met on IG and gifted me several of these Tim Holtz Christmas die cuts last year. Little did she know how much The Three Wise Men means to me.
